Day 24: Christmas PJ’s

Every year on Christmas Eve, my family has a little tradition we go through. Everyone gets to open one present before they go to bed-it is their PJ’s for the night. And then we all snuggle up with cocoa, watch “It’s A Wonderful Life”, and listen to my dad read The Night Before Christmas. I love this little tradition of ours. And here are some ideas for PJ’s!

What does your family do before going to bed on Christmas Eve?

Day 16: Pet Playtime

I love animals-often times more than I like people. So, for those of you like me, here are some ideas on how to get your pets involved in the holiday festivities. They especially need some extra attention if they need to be left alone while you’re celebrating and friends and family’s houses.

Take them to go see Santa; often pet stores will do this during the holidays, and it makes for a pretty cute photo. Or wrap them in lights when decorating. Again, it’s a great photo op.

These are our puppes!

Play in the snow with them! Most dogs I know love jumping around and burying their faces in the powdery snow.  And it will wear them out enough that you can get things done around the house without them getting in the way-they’ll be busy snoozing by the fire!

Get them special for Christmas, like special fresh treats from the pet bakery and some new chew toys, and put it all in their own stocking.

And finally, do some good by donating to your local humane society (they often offer holiday cards and calendars for the next year). Or adopt a pet if you’re thinking of adding to your furry family!

Day 8: Walking In a Winter Wonderland

While it is cold and icy out during the winter, that doesn’t mean there aren’t lots of fun things to do, and some of them might even keep you warm! Take a look at some of the things I love to do when it gets cold and snowy (yes, it happens in Arizona), and let me know if I missed one of your favorites.

Ice Skating:

Now, unfortunately, Arizona doesn’t get the massive frozen lakes that we can all go skating on, like the Midwest does. So instead, we go to indoor ice rinks. This is a good way to get the blood pumping, and an excuse to hold hands with your sweetie. Just try to avoid looking like a baby deer sliding around, like I do.

There are actually lots hills in my town, so this is pretty common. Just grab a disk/sled/whatever you can get, and race down the hills!

Walking through the lights:

I wrote a whole other post on the lights, but it’s still making this list. See which house in your neighborhood has the biggest display, or make a scavenger hunt to see what you can find in each yard.

Snowball fight:

Everyone loves a little competition, and it gets the blood pumping in the cold air. Just make sure there aren’t any rocks inside!

Horse/sleigh ride:

I love horse-rides, and whether it be a romantic couples sleigh ride, or one with the whole family, they just make things magical.

Build a snowman/make snow angels:

Get those creative juices flowing!

After getting outside for a little while, head back in to warm up by a fire with some cocoa and cookies!
